This is an attempt to give an over view of Bajkul Milani Mahavidyalaya Central Library . Inspire of paucity of resources, shortage of staff we are striving to meet the various demands of our users by rendering various services to all our users with the combined efforts of our staff members as well as the College Authority. In its juvenile stage the college library was housed in a small room of the present East Block with the financial assistance of UGC, State Govt. and fund of the college. The library started to function in the new block from 5th. February 2002. At present the library has total area of approx. 4800 sq.ft. of which the reception area covers 200 sq.ft.,OPAC with Internet Access area 200 sq.ft., Circulation Area covers 200 sq.ft., Processing Area covers 400 sq. ft., Digital Section 400 sq. ft., and Stack Room covers 1800 sq.ft. , Reading Room area covers 400 sq.ft,(for teachers) and Reading Room area covers 800 sq. ft.(for Students) , Drinking water and Toilet Area covers 400 sq.ft.

The library has open access facilities consisting of stack, journal section, technical section, reading room with seating capacity of one hundred student and twenty five teacher member users. The Library also has a separate PG wing. Additionally, each department has a departmental seminar library maintained by their respective faculties.

We are aiming to fully convert the present system of operation in our library with the help of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the near future. For this purpose we procured SOUL 2.0 software (Network Version, from 2009) designed by Information and Library Network Centre (INFLIBNET), An Autonomous Inter–University Centre of UGC. Moreover, CCTV cameras have been installed from 23rd January,2010. Our ultimate aim is to provide the right document/information to the right user at the right time with the help of modern technology with a careful human touch. Then we shifted WEB OPAC System for 365 days x 24 hours electronic database search by using the KOHA ILMS package in 21.03.2024.

We might have achieved little so far but hope to do more for our honorable users in future. This vision inspires us to work harder and provide the best we can every time to every user of this library.
